Schiavo non vuoi trascorrer la tua vita, non ami i gravi ceppi della schiavitù, hai preso il fucile, vuoi combattere per la libertà della nostra Grecia. Si empiono, figlio mio, gli occhi di lacrime e palpita l'infelice mio cuore, le mie viscere vanno in pezzi ora che te ne vai con gli altri ragazzi. Eppure, figlio mio, suona la campana, è giunto il duro momento del congedo, ed io, da madre Greca, lassù ti mando, ti mando, aquila reale del riscatto. [1] The terms have to be understood also as a traditional epithet of the Klephts and Armatoles (see note 4 at Στ'άρματα). As you can see, most of Greek partisans songs often refer to the heroes of the Greek Independence war of 1821. |
