EN KUNGENS MAN | A KING'S MAN |
| |
Maria går på vägen | Maria walks on the road |
Som leder in till byn | Which leads to the city. |
Hon sjunger och hon skrattar | She sings and she laughs |
Åt lärkorna i skyn | At the larks in the sky. |
Hon är på väg till torget | She is on her way to the town square |
För att sälja lite bröd | To sell a little bread, |
Och solen stiger varmast då | And the sun is rising warmest then, |
Och färgar himlen röd | And colors the sky red. |
| |
Då möter hon en herre | Then she meets a nobleman |
Och en häst med yvig man | And a horse with a bushy mane, |
Han säger: Jag är kungens man | He says: " I am the kings man |
Så jag tar vad jag vill ha | So I take what I want to have. |
Och du är alltför vacker | And you are too beautiful |
för att inte ha en man | Not to have a man; |
Följ med mig in i skogen | Follow me into the woods |
Ska jag visa vad jag kan | I will show you what I can." |
| |
Hon tvingas ner i gräset | She is forced down into the grass, |
Och han tar på hennes kropp | And he touches her body. |
Hon slingrar sig och ber honom | She gets away and begs him |
För guds skull hålla opp | For God's sake stop. |
Men riddaren bara skrattar | But the knight only laughs |
Berusad av sin glöd | Intoxicated by his own ardour |
Så hon tar hans kniv och stöter till | So she takes his knife and stabs him |
Och riddaren är död | And the knight is dead. |
| |
De fängslade Maria | They imprisoned Maria, |
Och hon stenades för dråp | And she was stoned to death for homicide. |
Men minnet efter riddaren | But the memory of the knight |
Det blev firat varje år | It was celebrated every year. |
Ja, herrarna blir hjältar | Yes, the noblemen become heroes, |
Men folket det blir dömt | But the people are condemned. |
Och vi som ser hur allt går till | And we who see how everything should go |
Vi får veta att vi drömt | We learn that we dreamed, |
