THE CLASH 1977

“I’m So Bored With the U.S.A” criticizes the country’s hypocritical treatment of veterans, the economic-driven influence of American meddling in other countries, the Watergate cover-up and the insidious influence of bland American TV. It mirrors the politics of other U.K. punk bands at the time and their sweeping rejection of all things American.

Genius
Yankee soldier
He wanna shoot some skag
He met it in Cambodia
But now he can't afford a bag

Yankee dollar talk
To the dictators of the world
In fact it's giving orders
An' they can't afford to miss a word

I'm so bored with the U...S...A...
But what can I do?

Yankee detectives
Are always on the TV
'Cos killers in America
Work seven days a week

Never mind the stars and stripes
Let's print the Watergate Tapes
I'll salute the New Wave
And I hope nobody escapes

I'm so bored with the U...S...A...
But what can I do?

Move up Starsky [1]
For the C.I.A.
Suck on Kojak [2]
For the USA
[1] Starsky and Hutch was a popular US 70’s cop show featuring two “rule-breaking” macho dudes, who wore hip clothes, kept their hair long and drove around in a fast car.

[2] Kojak was another ‘70’s US cop show of reknown. It starred actor/singer Telly Savalas as a suave, bald cop who loved to suck on lollipops and personified the headstrong and brash New York City where his story was set.

Versione italiana da Radio Clash
NON NE POSSO PIÙ DEGLI STATI UNITI

Soldato yankee
Vorrebbe spararsi un po' della roba
Che ha conosciuto in Cambogia
Ma adesso non può permettersi una busta

Messaggio del dollaro yankee
Ai dittatori del mondo
In realtà sta emanando ordini
E loro non possono permettersi di perdere una parola

Non ne posso più degli Stati Uniti
Ma che ci posso fare?

Investigatori yankee
Continuamente in Tv
Perché in America gli assassini
Lavorano sette giorni su sette

Freghiamocene delle stelle e striscie
Pubblichiamo i nastri del Watergate
Darò il benvenuto alla nuova onda
E spero che nessuno si salvi

Non ne posso più degli Stati Uniti
Ma che ci posso fare?

Fuori dai piedi Starsky
Per la CIA
Fottiti Kojak
Per gli Stati Uniti
