La musica di questo brano – e, credo, dell'intera produzione dei Virus, ma non voglio nemmeno provare ad approfondire – è per me inascoltabile e disturbante. Ma, dal punto di vista testuale, la canzone è significativa e, forzandone l'interpretazione, in qualche modo profetica, visto che nel febbraio del 2011, quando uscì l'album in cui è contenuta, in Siria c'era la “primavera araba” che solo alla fine dell'anno si sarebbe trasformata nel lungo inverno/inferno della guerra cui stiamo ancora oggi assistendo...

In ogni caso i Virus si riferiscono qui agli Antichi villaggi della Siria settentrionale, le cosiddette Città Morte, un gruppo consistente (diverse centinaia) di insediamenti nei dintorni di Aleppo e Idlib, molto importanti dal punto di vista urbanistico, architettonico ed archeologico, che per motivi misteriosi furono completamente abbandonati dai loro abitanti tra l'VIII° e il IX secolo d.C.

There was life here
before the sands swept through the waters
