[1889]

Una versione de “The Red Flag”, con testo abbastanza simile e intitolata “We'll Never Die”, è l’inno ufficiale del Manchester United Football Club.
The people's flag is deepest red,
It shrouded oft our martyred dead,
And ere their limbs grew stiff and cold,
Their hearts' blood dyed its every fold.

Then raise the scarlet standard high.
Within its shade we live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here.

Look round, the Frenchman loves its blaze,
The sturdy German chants its praise,
In Moscow's vaults its hymns were sung
Chicago swells the surging throng.

Then raise the scarlet standard high.
Within its shade we live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here.

It waved above our infant might,
When all ahead seemed dark as night;
It witnessed many a deed and vow,
We must not change its colour now.

Then raise the scarlet standard high.
Within its shade we live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here.

It well recalls the triumphs past,
It gives the hope of peace at last;
The banner bright, the symbol plain,
Of human right and human gain.

Then raise the scarlet standard high.
Within its shade we live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here.

It suits today the weak and base,
Whose minds are fixed on pelf and place
To cringe before the rich man's frown,
And haul the sacred emblem down.

Then raise the scarlet standard high.
Within its shade we live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here.

With head uncovered swear we all
To bear it onward till we fall;
Come dungeons dark or gallows grim,
This song shall be our parting hymn.

Then raise the scarlet standard high.
Within its shade we live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here.

PUNALIPPU

On kansan lippu punainen,
se verhos' ruumiit marttyyrein,
mi verellään sen punasi
ja taistoss' henkens' uhrasi.

Nyt lippu tää jo nostakaa
sen varjoss' elää, kuolla saa
Ei petost' siedä se suojassaan,
eest' oikeuden se hulmuaa.

Sen punaa Ranska rakastaa
ja laulaa Saksa sen kunniaa.
Sen hymnit holveiss' Moskovan
ja Chicagoss' kuulet kaikuvan.

Jo hulmusit kun alkoi työ
ja voiton toivon verhos' yö.
Sä urotöistä todistit
ja sillä väris' pyhitit.

Sä voitostamme muistutat
ja rauhan toivon julistat.
Sä merkki ylväs, puhtoinen
oot jalompien aatteiden.

Päät paljastain me vannotaan:
Sua kuoloon saakka kannetaan.
Tul' hirsipuut tai vankilat
näin viime sanamme kaikuvat:

Go dtí le gairid, ní raibh aon aistriúchán iomlán Gaeilge le fáil ar ‘The Red Flag’, an t‑amhrán sóisialach is fearr aithne anseo agus sa Bhreatain. Tá dhá aistriúchán foilsithe againne le bliain anuas, áfach—agus murar leor na leaganacha atá i Red Banner 32 agus 36, seo iarracht eile fós! Aindrias Ó Cathasaigh a rinne an ceann seo dúinn.

An brat dearg - RED BANNER a magazine of socialist ideas
An brat dearg

Is dearg brat an phobail mhóir
Taisléine mairtíreach go leor
Is sula raibh siad fuar gear
D’fhág fuil a gcroí an dearg air

An brat dearg go hard sa spéir
Is faoi a sheasfaimid go léir
Ainneoin lucht fill is meatachán
An dearg a bheidh ar ár gcrann

Is breá le Francaigh é a fheiceáil
Is Gearmánaigh á mholadh thall
Cantar air i Moscó leis
Is Chicago ag dul sa treis

Bhí sé ann i dtús ár nirt
’S an sruth ag dul in aghaidh an chirt
Tugadh cath is mionna air
Coinnímis a dhath dá réir

Meabhraíonn sé an bua a bhí
Is síocháin chóir i ndeireadh slí
Bratach bhreá í, comhartha beo
Den cheart a thabharfaidh daoine leo

Feileann sé don seoinín claon
Ag santú pribhléide dó féin
Lútáil roimh an rachmasaí
An brat naofa a shatailt faoi

Geallaimid é a iompar linn
Ar aghaidh sa chath go gcaillfear sinn
Pé croch nó géibheann atá i ndán
Seo linn ag canadh ár n‑amhráin
