"Everyone writes about the soldiers.. I wanted to write a song for the wives left to fight every day battles at home..

I have a family member who's husband is in Iraq. I wrote this song for her and all the other wives who are left here to cope with every day problems".
The kids were off to school
Clothes were on the line
The letter that she wrote
Said we're all doin' fine
Pappy had a birthday
Momma's losin' weight
So don't you worry, honey
We're all doing great..

But the weight inside her heart was getting heavy..
Each day she felt her courage slip away..
She knew this war could not go on forever
A soldier's wife gets by day by day

She put a drop of perfume
Below the final line
the X's and the O's said
I'll love you for all time
She hoped he wouldn't see
The tear drop that fell
Among the words of love
That she always wrote so well

But the weight inside her heart was getting heavy
Each day she felt her courage slip away
She knew this war could not go on forever
A soldier's wife gets by day by day

She sat there at the table
tryin' to hide her fear
Afraid to read the telegram
Her eyes filled with tears
With shaking hands she touched it
She felt so all alone
It said..-Honey it's over
And I'm comin' home

And the weight inside her heart was getting lighter
Each time she read the note her courage grew
She knew her love would now go on forever
A soldier's wife's war was fin'ly through.
