God Damn the War

Fr. Christoforos Schuff
Language: English

Well, I was raised to love my country,
I was taught to be polite
To see the difference between wrong and right
And I was taught to avoid them little four-letter words
‘Cause some things are better left unheard

And God knows I love my country and I try to be polite
But a few things still ain’t sittin’ right
And I’ve got somethin’ to say, though you won’t like me no more,
Well here we go: “God damn the war!”

Well God damn all war to hell
May it burn for eternity
May the bullets jam the guns
May all the soldiers go free
And if them liars come a knockin'
Please feel free to slam the door
And shout it out "God damn the war"

Well, they'll tell you it's for country
They'll tell you it's for Christ
Give you a hundred reasons
You should give your life

But just one bloody child at the end of the night
Is just one reason they'll never be right
So feel free to love you country
And feel free to give your life
Serve a poor man, his children and his wife
Love the outcast, the beggar and the victims of the war
And don't forget "God damn the war!"

Well God damn all war to hell
May it burn for eternity
May the bullets jam the guns
May all the soldiers go free
And if them liars come a knockin'
Please feel free to slam the door
And shout it out "God damn the war"

Well, if the devil comes a'knockin' please feel free to slam the door
Say "Go back to hell" and "God damn the war"
