TRE FIUMI

Anch'io ci andai a bere, ci andai a dissetarmi,

THREE RIVERS

Three rivers thrice passed over my heart
and stole my youth and took away my joy.

The first river was turbid. the second raging
the third dragged grief and a blackened tear.

I too went to drink water, I went to quench my thirst
three rivers I set foot on, and three I have to cross.

One took away my heart, and the other my voice
on the third, where you were, I lost my life.
