KEITH MARSDEN 1939 - 1991

Keith was born in Morley, near Leeds, in the West Riding of Yorkshire. After a period at London University he started work with the Midland Bank. During these years the interest in folk music that had started before university developed into his greatest interest. He was involved with a number of groups, most notably New Heritage with Brian Senior, before forming Cockersdale. Keith's song-writing prowess is legend. Although not a prolific writer his output is sung the length and breadth of Britain and also in many countries from Australia to the USA.
Keith died before his time the day of his return from Sidmouth Festival where Cockersdale had been performing. In the year following his death Val, John and Graham produced a book of Keith's songs - Picking Sooty Blackberries.
